Master personal cloud storage, file synchronization, sharing controls, and secure collaboration. OneDrive is the personal storage and sharing hub in Microsoft 365.

Complete Administration Guide

What is OneDrive for Business?

OneDrive for Business provides each user with their own secure cloud storage space integrated with SharePoint, Teams, Outlook, and other Microsoft 365 services for seamless collaboration from any device.

💾

Personal Cloud Storage

Each user gets 1TB+ of personal secure cloud storage. Access files from any device — browser, desktop, or mobile.

🔄

File Sync Client

OneDrive sync client keeps files in sync between cloud and local device. Works offline and syncs automatically when connected.

🤝

Easy Sharing & Collaboration

Share files and folders with colleagues or external partners. Co-author documents in real time directly in the browser.

🔒

Security & Encryption

Files encrypted at rest and in transit. Administrators can enforce encryption, manage sharing, and apply DLP policies.

📋

Version History

Every file keeps version history automatically. Users can restore previous versions or recover accidentally deleted files.

📊

Compliance & Auditing

Retention labels, DLP policies, and eDiscovery support. Full audit trail of file access and sharing activities.

⚡ Common Troubleshooting Scenario

Issue: A user’s OneDrive sync client is stuck and files are not syncing to the cloud.

1️⃣ Check the OneDrive icon in the system tray for error messages or paused status
2️⃣ Verify the user is signed in with the correct work account (not a personal account)
3️⃣ Check for file name/path issues — invalid characters, path length over 400 characters
4️⃣ Confirm storage quota is not full (both local disk and OneDrive cloud quota)
5️⃣ Reset the sync client: %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\onedrive.exe /reset
6️⃣ If restricted to managed devices, verify the device is compliant and domain-joined/Intune-enrolled
